TVB does not respond to rumors of Stephen Chan joining Taiwan TV station

When Stephen Chan was arrested by the ICAC back on 3/11 on accusations of corruption, TVB immediately suspended all his General Manager responsibilities. Though Chan and the others arrested have since been released on bail, there are no plans in the immediate future for them to resume their work responsibilities due to the ongoing investigation by the ICAC.

Yesterday, there were reports that at the end of last year (2009), Stephen Chan had already decided to leave TVB and join the TV station that Next Magazine owner Jimmy Lai had started in Taiwan – in addition, he was planning to ‘recruit’ many of the TVB behind-the-scenes crew (producers, scriptwriters, etc.) to work with him in Taiwan. However, since Chan is still contracted with TVB, plus the corruption case is still pending, he will not be able to work for other organizations anytime soon.

Mingpao’s reporters contacted Stephen Chan to confirm the rumors, however as of this report, there has not been any response. As for TVB’s spokesperson, External Affairs Manager Tsang Sing Ming, expressed that currently, Stephen Chan is still a TVB employee and the company will not respond further to the rumors.
