Koo Mei Wah as Steven Ma’s Special Guest in Apprentice Chef

Josephine Koo Mei Wah Agreed to be Steven Ma’s Special Guest

Josephine Koo Mei Wah keeps a low profile these days and rarely makes public appearances, but surprisingly she accepted Steven Ma’s invitation to be his special guest in Apprentice Chef that will air tonight. When asked why she gives such ‘face’ to Steven, she laughingly says: “Because I’ve known Wai Zai for a long time lo! He is very “guai” (well-behaved, 佢好乖!) ”. Actually, prior to this meeting, Steven was not acquainted with Ms. Koo at all. In fact, he had his invitation conveyed to Ms. Koo by a friend on his behalf, and was stunned when she actually accepted.

“Haha!” At seeing Steven’s face flushed with consternation, Ms. Koo was all the more amused. Only later did she deign to divulge this little secret: “Actually I didn’t know Steven before this, a friend of my daughter does. And through her, I got to know the real him. I had a good impression of him.” Actually, the outwardly aloof Ms. Koo is really very playful in private. She jests that she and Steven look a bit alike, and that they can collaborate in either a tvb series or a movie. “Our faces have a similar genetic looks so we can act as siblings, maybe twins…”

Steven was not confident at first that Ms. Koo would accept his invitation. “At my first sight of her, I thought she is a very elegant Chinese lady. And with her short hairdo, looks trendy. She looks a bit like my mom at a younger age (his mom). The funny thing is that she asked me to address her as “Auntie” because that’s what my friend calls her.”

In Steven’s eyes, Miss Koo is both refined and calm. But he did not expect her to be so humorous in private, “She is actually a deadpan comedian; she is so very funny with her words. It would be so awesome if I have an opportunity to collaborate with her. ”

Koo Mei Wah is a movie actress. In 1985 she won Best New Performer Award for her debut role in Homecoming at the Hong Kong Film Awards. In 2004 Koo was awarded the Best Actress Award at the Shanghai International Film Festival for her role in Shanghai Story.
