High viewership for Sisters of Pearls

The Sisters of Pearls is set in Hong Kong in 1960s, whose storyline is based on the fight for inheritance of a jeweller. It is yet another cliché family-themed show targeted at housewives. However, the show was made interesting with support from strong cast like Jessica, Bowie, Michael and Kiki.

The seeds of dissonance was sowed between sisters

The sisters of pearls depicted the society in 1960s where stigma against females still existed. Inheritance was usually passed down to the sons instead of daughters. The eldest daughter was stubborn, subjective and hoped to control the family business. The second daughter had a set of tricks in her bag. The third daughter was rash and can be easily controlled by others. As the second daughter returned home with her son, she repeatedly interfered with Kiki's management of the jewellery business. The conflict between the two sisters are heightened by the two girls controlling and using the third sister. Joyce then claimed to be pregnant with their father and sowed the seeds of dissonance between the three sisters and begin to tarnish the image of the jewellery business.

The person attracting viewership: Jessica

One of the strongest attraction to the show is Jessica. Even though Jessica had taken up roles that were not righteous in the past, she had not tried a role that was scheming and calculative. This is a new point of view which makes the show interesting. Jessica has already showed her powers in the first episode. When she was being robbed whilst strolling with her son, the seemingly demure girl chased after the robber and used her heels to knocked him, saying, "nobody can take away my things!" She seemed to be very pitiful in front of her mother-in-law but she was happily returning back to her home in a split second. When Joyce suddenly claimed to be her father's mistress, everyone wanted to treat her badly. Instead, Jessica did not do so openly. She was playing with her son in the living room and broke some glasses. This made Joyce feel scared and unwelcomed. Jessica's first attempt as a villain is unlike Tavia's role in "Beyond the realm of conscience" who was loud and angry. She did not show her emotions, and had calculated her actions well. A netizen praised Jessica in that she seemed to be more of a decisive independent instead of a villain.

The producer mentioned that Jessica is in charge of the first climax, second would be Michael and third will be Bowie; lastly Joyce.
