Yurp! Paris

So although it's been a while I never got the last European city up here. It was of course Paris. We rode there in a very nice private sleeper car -- quite the way to travel indeed. And when we got there JB and his mum Bridget were there to say hi (or at least to meet in the Louvre)! Here's JB with his car (He wishes!)We had a fine tme wondering around the city having lunch and I spent most of the

Yurp! Berlin

Leaving Prague on a night train, I used my cheap English cellphone to call a random place from the guide book in Berlin. My German and the English of the woman answering the phone matched, and we managed to ascertain "Zimmer Yes!" in about 5 minutes of conversation. However, due to its odd history Berlin has three main stations and the train we were on was splitting, a guard who spoke some

Yurp! Prague

So first stop on the whirlwind tour was Prague. Quite a place. Although one of the things we missed that I wanted to see was the museum of Communism, one of the first things we did see was the balcony from which Havel addressed the crowd at the time of the Velvet Revolution...just 16 short years ago.The balcony from which Havel addressed the crowd during the Velvet RevolutionPrague is old and

Yurp! England

So after a quick trip to Amsterdam, I made it to London. I found Amanda at the aiport and we snuck into the center of town and went and played tourist. The first big tourist day was at St Pauls, the Tower of London (including an enactment of the Guy Fawkes gunpowder plot) and the Houses of Parliament. It was a really hot day, so we were forced to stop for several pints of Youngs on the way.Amanda

It has been way too long

Way way too long since I posted here. The main news is that I have recently been off to Europe but before that there was chillin' in Napa with the lovely Amanda. More pics here.Amanda hanging in the vinesThen I had my 500th (month) birthday party. Quite a few ravers showed up, and only one bottle was thrown (at us from the next door high rise!). Religious expedition to the Virgin (Islands)

One of my best friends from Cambridge, Paula is taking a year off to sail around the Caribbean (or the West Indies if you're a Brit). I went over there to join them for a few days. On the good boat Yellowbird we did a teeny amount of sailing between the very pleasant shores of the various US and British Virgin Islands. It was really great to hang out with Paula and John.Matthew & Paula relaxing

Attack of the Mayans

OK. Lots of catching up to do in this photo bloggery mania. First up is the lovely and wild Maya Capur, who is taking me to Duran Duran next month, after her own trip to New ZealandMaya had a birthday party for an indeterminate age at her parents house on the last day of January -- just to prove that you are never too old to go home. Or in her case to force her parents to move nearer her...(from

Whisky Drinking Men

Now when an esteemed group of young men come around to your house, bring a huge amount of the finest single malt Scotch whisky with them and give individual lectures about where the distilleries are, and what the whisky should taste like, and even don't drink absolutely all of it, then you my friend are not a drunk, you are a connoisseur. The Gang of Malt-esersIf you repeat this concept enough,

KT party panic

Last weekend KT had a birthday party buried beneath thousands of other reasons for having a party. So much so that I thought her birthday was some other time! It was the first time that her new place was on view with all the stuff actually done after 6 months of renovation (including me having to cart dirt on one occasion and having to fetch some day laborers for her on another!), and it was the

RedCheesery

So I was innocently walking down the street last Monday night when David the mad Frenchman drove up with his Red Cheese photo booth on the back of his and Aaron's truck. They were going to a party at Jack Falstaff the new restaurant, and so by extended invitation Caroline and I did too. It was actually the Plumpjack restaurants Christmas party. There was gambling and great food (we can definitely

New Year's Eve

In a fit of insanity, when we could all have gone on a boat and let someone else deal with the aggravation Heidi persuaded KT, Caroline, Stephen and me to have a New Year's Eve party , and worse (especially for my neighbors) persuaded Caroline and me to host it at my loft!

And what a night it turned out to be.....
